Construction & trades finance

Contractor books that hold up with your surety, your lender and your own bids.

For general contractors, subcontractors and specialty trades with roughly $3M to $20M in revenue. Books closed every month, a WIP schedule on every open job and a cash forecast, so you know which jobs make money while there's still time to act.

  • General contractors
  • Subcontractors
  • Mechanical, electrical & plumbing
  • Site work & specialty trades

What we do

Job-level numbers every month, not once a year.

Many contractors only see a WIP schedule when the surety asks for it. By then, a job that faded in the spring is history.

For your surety

Bonding-ready financials

Closed books, a WIP schedule and supporting schedules, organized the way underwriters read them and on time for your bond line review.

Every month

WIP schedules

Every open job: contract value, costs to date, estimated cost to complete, percent complete, and over- and under-billings.

By job and cost code

Job costing

Labor, materials, equipment and subcontract costs coded to the job, so estimates can be checked against actuals and the next bid is built on real numbers.

On your contracts

Revenue recognition

Contract revenue recorded on the basis your surety, lender and outside accountant expect, with the billing position on each job shown clearly.

13 weeks and beyond

Cash forecast

A rolling cash forecast built from your billing schedule, retainage, payables and payroll, so a slow-paying job doesn't become a cash surprise.

How it's priced

One fixed monthly fee

Contractor work runs on a fixed monthly plan, usually Strategic or Fractional CFO. Your scope and fee are set out in a written proposal after the fit call.

Who it's for

Contractors from about $3M to $20M in revenue

General contractors, subcontractors and specialty trades (mechanical, electrical, plumbing, site work and others), who are:

  • Bonded, or working toward a first or larger bond line
  • Carrying a bank line or equipment debt with reporting requirements
  • Closing the books late, so the WIP schedule is a once-a-year exercise
  • Unsure which jobs made money until after they're closed
  • Tight on cash between draws, retainage and payroll

What sureties and lenders look for

The questions behind every bond line and renewal

Every surety and lender sets its own requirements, but the same questions come up again and again:

  • Timely year-end statements from your outside accountant, delivered when they're due
  • A WIP schedule that ties to the financial statements, with over- and under-billings explained
  • Working capital and equity that support the work you're bidding
  • AR and AP aging: who owes you, how long it has been, and how current you are with suppliers and subs
  • Bank line and debt schedules that match the balance sheet
  • Backlog: signed work not yet performed, and the gross profit expected on it
  • Interim statements during the year, not just at year-end

General information only. Requirements vary by surety and lender; ask yours what it needs.

Free checklist

The bonding-readiness checklist

A one-page, printable list of the documents and schedules sureties commonly review: year-end statements, the WIP schedule, AR and AP aging, bank and debt schedules, backlog and more. Use it to see where your package stands before the next bond line review.

  • Plain language, no jargon
  • Print it or work through it on screen
  • General education: requirements vary by surety
